Summer 2015
The challenge
The NHS South East London Commissioning Support Unit (SELCSU) wanted a public dialogue as part of their ‘Our Healthier South East London’ programme. The programme had identified a series of health issues as important for patients and the public so SELCSU wanted to get patient and public feedback on those issues via a series of deliberative events for 100 members of the public and stakeholders in each Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) area (Bexley, Bromley, Lambeth, Lewisham, Greenwich, and Southwark).
How we approached it
We designed a three hour deliberative session based on the programme strategy. Working with stakeholders in six CCGs we tailored the content for each. We managed the six events recruiting a representative sample of 600 public and stakeholders participants. At the events TCC facilitators conducted semi-structured discussion to identify what was important to local people. After the events we provided a detailed report to feed into the development of the programme strategy.
What happened
Each event was high profile following a period of difficult public relations with regards to changes in the local health service. This series of events successfully brought together a diverse sample of the community who were engaged in a positive and constructive conversation. The feedback will directly impact on the next steps for SELCSU.
